Year-ender 2021: 'We have started our walk towards having more global champions' – Rahul Trehan

We ask industry leaders for their learnings from 2021, and an outrageous prediction for the year to come

Year-ender 2021: 'We have started our walk towards having more global champions' – Rahul Trehan

Campaign India is ending the year by asking industry leaders about what this year taught them and an outrageous prediction for 2022.

Here's what Rahul Trehan, chief operating officer, IOS Sports and Entertaintment, had to say:

Your stand-out moment or learning from 2021?

Undoubtedly the one most important standout moment for all of us would be India's first ever athletics Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj Chopra's achievement will be written in the golden words in Indian sporting history and would forever be remembered for being the start to a change of fortune for Indian athletics at the global level. However, along with Neeraj's Gold, what really added a proud smile to my face and rightly to all Indians, were Mirabai's Silver medal in weightlifting and Lovlina's Bronze medal in the boxing event at the Tokyo Olympics. So in a nutshell, India's terrific performance at the Tokyo Olympics will undoubtedly remain as the most standout moment for me as a well as all Indians in 2021. This also gives us a very important learning that all these medals were not a result of efforts over a few months, but years of dedication, hard work and not so successful outcomes at times. The underlining factor remaining - never lose hope and always put in your best, and nothing can stop you from achieving what you dream of.

An outrageous prediction for 2022?

Riding on our Tokyo Olympics success, 2022 proves to be a start of a new era for Indian Olympic sports, as for once we all can proudly believe that we have started our walk towards having more global champions.
