Interpublic has created a media holding company structure called Mediabrands that will include its two media agencies Initiative and Universal McCann. When Campaign India spoke to Lynn de Souza, chairman and CEO, Lintas Media Group (pictured), about the implications of the move in India, she said, "In time, yes, the creation of the new management entity Mediabrands would have implications for the Indian market as well. I cannot share any details with you at this point, though."
Diageo is reviewing its US$4 million Indian media buying and planning business, putting incumbents Universal McCann and MEC on alert.In addition to the two incumbents, it is thought that Initiative and ZenithOptimedia are also involved in the pitch. Universal and MEC were awarded the business in 2006, with the IPG agency taking charge of Smirnoff, Shark Tooth and Captain Morgan rum, while the GroupM agency oversees Johnnie Walker and Haig.
