NDTV Digital has appointed Vinay Sarawagi as chief content officer, reinforcing its focus on digital growth, editorial innovation and AI-driven content strategies.
Sarawagi joins the organisation with more than two decades of experience spanning editorial leadership, digital transformation and media business strategy. In his new role, he will oversee content strategy across NDTV Digital platforms, with a mandate to strengthen storytelling, deepen audience engagement and build scalable content capabilities aligned with evolving consumer behaviours and technology trends.
Before joining NDTV Digital, Sarawagi was co-founder and chief executive officer of The Media GCC, a specialised global capability centre that supported media and broadcast organisations with content strategy, technology transformation and revenue optimisation. The organisation focused significantly on AI-led disruption and the application of emerging technologies within media businesses.
Over the course of his career, Sarawagi has held leadership positions at Times Group, Network18, Business Standard, Reuters, DNA and India Today. His experience spans editorial operations, audience development, digital strategy and revenue growth, contributing to large-scale digital expansion initiatives across multiple media organisations.
Academically, Sarawagi holds a master’s degree in media management and a diploma in cyber laws. He is also a CNN Fellow.
At NDTV Digital, his responsibilities will include shaping content strategies that leverage artificial intelligence to enhance storytelling formats, strengthen editorial depth and improve audience experiences. The company said the appointment forms part of its wider effort to build a newsroom equipped to respond to changing patterns of news consumption and technological advancement.
Welcoming Sarawagi to the organisation, Rahul Kanwal, chief executive officer and editor-in-chief, NDTV, said, “Vinay brings a combination of editorial understanding, digital experience and strategic clarity. As NDTV strengthens its digital presence, his leadership will help us build content that is credible, contemporary, and deeply relevant to our audiences across the world.”
The appointment reflects the growing emphasis among media organisations on integrating editorial expertise with technology-led innovation. As audiences increasingly engage with content across digital platforms, publishers are focusing on new storytelling formats, audience personalisation and AI-enabled workflows to remain relevant and competitive.
Purva Misra, chief people officer, NDTV, highlighted Sarawagi’s collaborative leadership style and his understanding of technology’s role in shaping modern newsrooms.
She said, “What stood out to us was Vinay’s collaborative approach and his focus on using AI to rethink the newsroom. He is someone you can sit down with and exchange ideas easily - and that matters as we build what’s next.”
Sarawagi emphasised the opportunity to contribute to NDTV’s next phase of digital growth while maintaining the organisation’s editorial values.
He said, “NDTV has long stood for credibility and public trust. I am delighted to join NDTV Digital at a time when journalism is being reshaped by technology, audience behaviour, and new storytelling formats. I look forward to working with the team to build sharp, future-ready digital content.”
Sarawagi’s appointment forms part of NDTV Digital’s broader strategy to create a more agile and future-ready newsroom. The company aims to combine the trust and credibility associated with the NDTV brand with innovation, speed and audience-centric content strategies that reflect the changing dynamics of digital media consumption.
