Deloitte South Asia has elevated Rohit Varier, leader for corporate and marketing communications, to the role of executive director. Varier recently announced the development on LinkedIn. The appointment represents a partner-level leadership position within one of the Big Four consulting firms and reflects the increasing role of communications in supporting business growth, reputation management and stakeholder engagement.
Varier has been with Deloitte for eight years and brings more than 20 years of experience in building, protecting and scaling brands across complex, high-growth and highly scrutinised environments. Throughout his career, he has worked across a broad range of communications disciplines, including brand and marketing communications, media relations, digital strategy, product and platform launches, leadership positioning, and issues and crisis communications.
Before joining Deloitte, Varier spent more than a decade at public relations firms, advising clients across sectors including Big Four firms, technology, automobiles, FMCG, aviation, finance, infrastructure and energy. His experience spans corporate reputation management, strategic communications planning and stakeholder engagement programmes across diverse industries.
Commenting on Varier’s LinkedIn announcement, Romal Shetty, chief executive officer, Deloitte South Asia, said, “Hearty congratulations Rohit on a tremendous achievement. Welcome to the leadership.”
The elevation comes as Deloitte continues to pursue growth in India, with a focus on expanding its market presence and increasing its impact across sectors. Against a backdrop of heightened scrutiny, rapid market shifts and evolving stakeholder expectations, communications functions are increasingly playing a central role in helping organisations manage reputation, shape narratives and navigate uncertainty.
In his new position, Varier will focus on aligning business, marketing and communications objectives to create clear, growth-oriented narratives. The role will also involve managing diverse stakeholder groups and strengthening the integration of communications strategies with broader business priorities.
Reflecting on his career journey in a LinkedIn post, Varier highlighted the influence of the communications profession on his development and perspective.
“PR and Communications gave me a front-row seat to business, leadership, reputation building, public affairs, media, and countless stories. It opened doors I never knew existed and introduced me to some of the most remarkable people I have met. For that, my first thank you goes to the profession itself.”
He also acknowledged the opportunities he received at Deloitte and the scope to contribute beyond traditional communications responsibilities.
“As a Mass Media graduate, I could never have imagined building a career at the #1 professional services firm in the world. Deloitte gave me the space to build, experiment, challenge conventions, and contribute beyond the boundaries of a traditional communications role.”
The appointment underscores the growing importance of strategic communications, brand stewardship and leadership positioning within large professional services organisations as they seek to strengthen market relevance and business growth.
