Salt Media Entertainment appoints Najia Khaan as director and producer

Salt Media Entertainment (SMEPL), part of the RVCJ Group, has announced the appointment of British-Afghan filmmaker and storyteller Najia Khaan as director and producer for documentaries and special films. Known for her cross-cultural narratives, Khaan brings to the role a strong record of films exploring resilience, identity, and the human spirit.

Khaan gained recognition for her 2016 documentary Finding Soraya, filmed entirely in Afghanistan, and has continued to engage audiences through works such as Bacha Bereesh – Shadows of Innocence and Empire of the Moon. Her latest documentary, Bacha Bereesh – Shadows of Innocence, has been officially selected for screening at the Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles, which celebrates excellence in global cinema.

In a significant recognition of her growing influence, Khaan has also been invited to serve as a jury member at the same festival. This marks a notable moment for South Asian cinema and underscores her standing as a filmmaker whose work transcends cultural and geographical boundaries.

Firdaus Sayed, partner at Salt Media Entertainment, said the company is delighted to welcome Khaan, noting that her storytelling vision aligns with SMEPL’s commitment to producing documentaries that resonate across audiences.

Khaan expressed enthusiasm about joining the company, stating that filmmaking has always been her way of bridging silence and understanding. She added that SMEPL provides a creative platform to pursue truth-driven storytelling and create films that connect with viewers on a deeper emotional level.
