OMD wins Telenor in India and Pakistan

Part of a multi-market media review

OMD wins Telenor in India and Pakistan
OMD has been awarded media strategy, planning and buying duties for Telenor Group in India and Pakistan. It also added the pre-paid business while retaining Telenor's post-paid business along with dtac in Thailand, following a multi-market media review.

Last November, it was reported that Mindshare Malaysia had won the media account for Telenor-operated DiGi Malaysia. This is believed to be the earliest reported results from the pitch.

Stephen Li, CEO of OMD Asia-Pacific, cited the agency's analytical capabilities, performance-based media channels and media creativity as reasons for the win.

"We believe that in working with Telenor, it will give us the opportunity to create interesting, challenging and effective work in the changing marketing and media ecosystem," added Li.

In December 2014, Havas Media Group was appointed to handle creative duties for the then-named Uninor India. In September last year, Uninor was rebranded to Telenor, an exercise handled by the Havas Group.

Campaign Asia-Pacific was unable to confirm the incumbent agencies working on the Telenor India and Pakistan accounts but it has been reported recently that ZenithOptimedia numbered Uninor among its clients in India.

It is understood that the incumbent agency for Telenor's Grameenphone in Bangladesh is Starcom Mediavest Group.
