Wieden + Kennedy has forayed into the Internet radio space with the launch of WK Radio. According to the agency's blog, the initiative has been rolled out to "inspire creativity through provocative conversations, interviews and artistic expressions relating to arts, culture, media, and music."
With the station just a over a month old, the exact format is still being charted out. As of now, the Portland office hosts a two-hour long morning show. "We aim to have all our seven offices around the globe take up two hour spots daily," said Bill Davenport, creative director, WK Entertainment. "What blogs don't do is human to human connection which a radio does and the game-plan is to build an artistic community globally through this radio station."
The station will be used as a promotional tool for the agency's clients, more in the form of branded content than regular ad spots. "We ran an interview with the Converse China head recently," said Davenport. "I intend interviewing our Nike clients soon."
WK Radio streams through Live 365, an internet radio company who provides licensing/royalty coverage.
