Microsoft has appointed Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) to handle its global media strategy and planning.

Following a media agency review announced in January 2011, the company has split its duties between incumbent Universal McCann and SMG. McCann will continue to manage Microsoft's media planning and buying outside of North America.
