Prasar Bharati has launched ‘Creator’s Corner’, a new segment on DD News designed to provide a national platform for emerging digital content creators from across India. The initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to recognise, support and mainstream the country’s expanding creator economy.
The launch was presided over by Union minister for information and broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, who described the initiative as part of wider structural changes underway within Prasar Bharati. Vaishnaw stated that 2026 would mark a period of major reforms, including the restructuring of the information and broadcasting ministry to make institutions such as Doordarshan and All India Radio more creator-friendly and technology-driven.
‘Creator’s Corner’ is positioned as a bridge between India’s rapidly growing digital creator community and the reach of public broadcasting. By offering creators exposure on DD News, the segment aims to legitimise independent digital content while expanding the diversity of voices and formats available to television audiences.
Vaishnaw also referenced the WAVES platform launched last year, describing it as a significant development within India’s Orange Economy. He said the platform has enabled opportunities for one crore young creators, contributed to the creation of new employment avenues and generated close to INR 5,000 crore in economic activity. According to the minister, initiatives such as ‘Creator’s Corner’ build on this momentum by creating additional pathways for creators to reach mainstream audiences.
Minister of state for information and broadcasting Dr L. Murugan said the new segment would be particularly empowering for creators from small towns and diverse linguistic communities. He noted that many such creators already manage the full lifecycle of content production independently, from creation and editing to distribution. By featuring their work on Doordarshan, Murugan said, the initiative offers them a credible national and global stage aligned with the government’s vision of strengthening India’s Orange Economy.
Information and broadcasting secretary Sanjay Jaju said ‘Creator’s Corner’ is intended to foster a responsible, inclusive and vibrant content ecosystem. He emphasised that the initiative recognises digital creators as full-fledged content producers rather than peripheral contributors. Jaju added that while the segment will initially air on DD News, there are plans to expand it across other Doordarshan channels.
According to Jaju, the allocation of a dedicated prime-time slot is central to the initiative’s intent. By placing creator-led content within a fixed, high-visibility broadcast window, Prasar Bharati aims to help creators reach wider audiences while also introducing fresh perspectives and contemporary formats into public service broadcasting.
‘Creator’s Corner’ will air from Monday to Friday at 7 pm on DD News, with repeat telecasts scheduled for 9:30 am the following morning. Each episode will feature four to six short-form videos curated across a wide range of themes, including news, culture, travel, cuisine, arts, health, education, science, environment and entertainment.
The segment reflects a broader shift within public broadcasting towards greater engagement with digital-native content and creators. As India’s media landscape continues to evolve, initiatives such as ‘Creator’s Corner’ signal an effort to integrate independent digital storytelling into traditional platforms, while maintaining editorial responsibility and public interest values.
By creating space for emerging voices within a national broadcaster, Prasar Bharati is positioning itself as an active participant in the evolving creator economy, while adapting Doordarshan’s programming to reflect contemporary content consumption and production trends.
