JioHotstar brings HBO Max exclusively to India

JioHotstar strengthens its premium content offering through an expanded partnership, positioning itself as the exclusive destination for HBO Max in India.

JioHotstar and Warner Bros. Discovery have announced an expanded partnership that brings HBO Max to India, exclusively on the JioHotstar platform. The launch introduces a dedicated HBO Max hub, positioning JioHotstar as a unified destination for premium global content and strengthening its competitive stance in India’s streaming market.

The partnership marks a strategic move to consolidate globally recognised content libraries under a single interface, combining brands such as HBO, Max Originals, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. From a marketing perspective, the integration underscores a shift towards platform aggregation, where scale, curation and accessibility are key drivers of user acquisition and retention.

Kevin Vaz, ceo – entertainment, JioStar, said, “This marks a defining moment in how premium global content is accessed and experienced in India. By bringing HBO Max to JioHotstar, we are creating a unified destination for premium international content and raising the bar for quality content once again. We are combining scale, curation, quality and ease of access. This unlocks a deeper and more immersive entertainment experience for audiences nationwide.”

James Gibbons, president of APAC, Warner Bros. Discovery, added, “India is one of the most vibrant streaming markets globally, and in JioHotstar, we have a partner with unmatched scale and a deep understanding of local audiences. The launch of HBO Max exclusively with JioHotstar marks the next chapter in our long-standing collaboration, enabling us to broaden the reach of our premium brands and franchises, and build deeper connections with fans across the country.”

The HBO Max hub introduces a wide catalogue of content, including upcoming and returning titles that are central to its global programming strategy. Among the key highlights for 2026 are new seasons of ‘Euphoria’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, alongside new series such as ‘Lanterns’ from DC Studios and the first season of the HBO Original ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’. Existing titles available on the platform include ‘The Last of Us’, ‘The White Lotus’, ‘Succession’, ‘Dune: Prophecy’, ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘Game of Thrones’, reinforcing the platform’s premium positioning.

In addition, the expanded partnership brings popular Warner Bros. Television titles such as ‘Friends’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ to JioHotstar subscribers for the first time. The catalogue also includes series like ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘Supernatural’ and ‘The Flash’, alongside film franchises including ‘Harry Potter’, ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and titles from the DC Universe. This breadth of content is designed to appeal to a wide demographic spectrum, enhancing engagement across genres and audience segments.

The HBO Max hub is positioned as an add-on offering, starting at INR 49 per month. This pricing strategy reflects an effort to balance premium content access with affordability, a key factor in India’s price-sensitive streaming landscape.

The launch aligns with broader industry trends where global studios are increasingly partnering with local platforms to expand reach and relevance. For JioHotstar, the move strengthens its content ecosystem by combining international franchises with its existing local and global library, creating a more comprehensive entertainment proposition.

As competition intensifies in India’s OTT space, the exclusive availability of HBO Max content serves as a significant differentiator for JioHotstar. The partnership highlights the growing importance of strategic alliances in driving scale, enhancing content portfolios and delivering value-led experiences to consumers.
