Campaign India Agency Report Card 2011: Wieden + Kennedy

Type of agency: Advertising

Ownership: Independent

Key Personnel: Mohit Dhar Jayal, MD, V Sunil, ECD

Account won: Xylys, Lycra, Coolmax

Account lost: Heineken (digital)

The jury duly noted that there are a lot of expectations from the agency that went on to deliver the so called creative show-stopper of the last year with its ‘on time’ campaign for Indigo Airlines. They did an encore with the brand late this year, with a Broadway musical format TVC for Indigo Airlines.  There were new wins like Xylys, Lycra and Coolmax but they lost the digital duties for Heineken, a brand that’s globally been working with W+K. And we are yet to hear of the replacements for Rajesh Bhargava (head of production) and Yousuf Rangoonwala (planning), who left W+K to join Dentsu Communications and BBH, respectively. Barring the Indigo TVC and the ‘Handcrafted in Chennai’ campaign for Royal Enfield, there wasn’t much work to evaluate the agency’s performance for the year, which refrained the jury from bringing the agency in the 7 to 8 category, which is otherwise what their true potential can easily get them. We hope they’ll bounce back next year.
