News Corp. is doing a major restructuring of STAR TV, with Laureen Ong, chief operating officer (COO), STAR TV, leaving the organisation.

It is expected that STAR India will be restructured as a smaller entity, with the management of STAR Movies and STAR World moving to Fox International Channels.

All the joint ventures in STAR Jupiter, STAR News, STAR Ananda and STAR Majha are expected to continue with STAR India.

The impact on Digital Entertainment Networks, (DEN) Hathway Cable and on Tata Sky Ltd is unclear. STAR India’s flagship channel, STAR Plus, has suffered a double whammy, being hit by the pressure on advertising caused by the downturn and by the performance of Viacom18’s general entertainment channel, Colors and the resurgence of Zee TV.

According to TAM data for the last week, STAR Plus was in third position in the GEC race.
