Meta removes 635,000 predator-linked accounts, rolls out new teen safety tools on Instagram

“Limiting DMs is basic. If Meta cared about teen safety, accounts would be hidden by default and only visible to approved contacts. That’s just common sense.” As Meta touts new protections, critics call the update surface-level and overdue.

In 2023, a lawsuit accused Facebook and Instagram of becoming a “marketplace for predators in search of children,” claiming that Meta’s platforms “allowed users to search for, like, share, and sell a crushing volume of [child sexual abuse material].”
