Madhya Pradesh Tourism collaborates with Anoushka Shankar for musical tribute film

Madhya Pradesh Tourism, in collaboration with Grammy-nominated sitarist Anoushka Shankar, Span Communications, and Venus Productions, has launched a new campaign film that pays tribute to the rhythm and spirit of India’s heartland. Conceptualised as a cinematic symphony, the film blends Shankar’s sitar compositions with striking visuals showcasing the state’s diverse landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage.

Shot across more than ten locations including Gwalior, Chanderi, Orchha, Khajuraho, Maheshwar, Mandav, Sanchi, Maihar, Jabalpur, and Bandhavgarh, the film was developed under the creative direction of Vishal Bhardwaj and directed by Ravi Jain. Shankar’s music captures the spiritual essence of Madhya Pradesh, from the ancient temples of Khajuraho to the serene ghats of Maheshwar and the lush forests of Bandhavgarh.

Sheo Shekhar Shukla, additional chief secretary for tourism, culture, home, and religious trust and endowment, and managing director of the MP Tourism Board, said the collaboration is a reflection of the state’s cultural symphony and natural beauty. He described the film as an invitation to experience the heartbeat of Madhya Pradesh.

Shankar said the project felt like a homecoming and hoped it would honour the beauty and richness of the state. Bhardwaj noted that Shankar’s sitar complements the textures and emotions of Madhya Pradesh, while Span Communications founder and CEO Naresh Kheterpal emphasised the campaign’s goal of authentically presenting the state to audiences in India and abroad.

The film’s production team includes Anil Jain of Venus Productions, music producer Abhishek Arora, cinematographer Lakhan Rathore, editor Suvir Nath, and aerial cinematographer Shitij Arora. The campaign seeks to position Madhya Pradesh as a destination where music, culture, and nature converge to form a unique travel experience.
