At the ‘House of Instagram’ event in Mumbai, Instagram introduced updates aimed at strengthening creator reach and reaffirming India’s importance within Meta’s global ecosystem. The platform announced that Meta AI translations will expand to five additional Indian languages on Instagram and Facebook in the coming months: Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi. The update is designed to help users discover a wider range of content from across India and beyond.
In October, Instagram introduced a feature allowing creators to dub and lip-sync reels between English, Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese. The new functionality enables creators to use Meta AI to transform their reels so they look and sound fluent in some of the world’s most widely spoken languages. The tool preserves the creator’s original voice quality, maintaining tone and character while applying translated audio. An optional lip-sync feature aligns mouth movements with the translated track, creating a seamless visual experience and making it appear as though the creator is speaking the translated language.
These features are intended to help creators build global audiences without compromising the authenticity of their content. Instagram positions the updates as a way for creators to overcome language barriers and increase engagement across international markets.
Instagram also announced the introduction of new Indian fonts for use in Edits. Creators will be able to style text and captions using Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts in languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese. The update is set to roll out on Android in the coming days and is designed to give creators more culturally relevant tools to express themselves in their preferred scripts.
Together, the expanded translation capabilities and new fonts represent Instagram’s continued investment in creator tools that support multilingual expression, making content more accessible to diverse audiences in India and abroad.
