In a development that has startled industry watchers, Cyrus Broacha has terminated all his existing contracts with various TV channels and is launching his own channel, funded by unnamed investors.
Speaking exclusively to Campaign India, Broacha said, "It is something that has been on my mind for the past two years. I have spent a lot of energy and effort building brands for others -- and the compensation has been a pittance. A year ago, I started seriously looking around for venture capitalists. I came across a few, and after detailed negotiations, I asked my financial advisors to finalise on one."
"I cannot share more as this is a gag period (no pun intended). All I can say now is that the first channel we launch will be a 24 hour comedy channel."
Would it be a Hindi channel or an English one, we asked him. "If it were a Hindi comedy channel and I was starring in a show, we'd save the money on script-writers. The audience would be ROFL for 22 minutes just listening to my accent and pronounciation of the first sentence."
On being asked if a 24 hour English comedy channel was a viable business propostition, Broacha said, "As Barnum said, 'there's a sucker born every minute'. And half the readers of campaignindia.in will prove the point, as they still haven't made a connection with this report and the date."
