Zee Media pulls out of BARC ratings

The media conglomerate has cited unbiased reporting in the news genre

Zee Media pulls out of BARC ratings
Zee Media has decided to opt out of BARC's ratings, for all its channels within the network. The media conglomerate has over 14 national and regional news channels in ten languages.

According to a release issued by Zee Media, the network exited the measurement system owing to BARC's incorrect reporting on Zee's news genre.

It states that the news genre has been shown as having a downward trajectory, to benefit GEC and other genres at large.

The media group, in their quest to understand the ratings, has questioned the structure and the transparency of the system multiple times.

However, the ratings agency has failed to rectify its concerns.

Zee Media is not the first channel to have a brawl with BARC. In 2021, Times Network had sent a legal notice to the ratings channel, in the #TRPScam issue.

Earlier this year, NDTV too, had pulled out of the measurement system citing a similar concern arround incorrect reporting.
