Weekend fun: Head to Pune to support the girl child
Women's magazine Femina's first 'Run for a Cause' takes place this weekend in Pune. The run aims at bringing to light different issues, the of which is the cause of the girl child. The run will be held on 16 March 2014. Participants can opt for a 3 km or a 6 km run and also donate to the charity 'Save The Children' through the initiative.
 
Tanya Chaitanya, editor, Femina, said in a prepared statement: ''Femina has and will always lead the way for the modern Indian woman. This time, while doing so, we sprint. And how! Femina's special marathon in Pune supports the girl child and gives everybody a chance to match steps with their compassion. So the only criteria for participation? Your do-gooder spirit. On your marks..."
 
The marathon will be flagged off by actor Kunal Kapoor, who along with Varun Sheth has started Ketto, an online fund raising venture. Through the ‘Femina Run for a Cause’, Ketto hopes to raise funds for Save Our Sisters (SOS). SOS, an initiative of Save the Children India, works to prevent trafficking of women and children from commercial sexual exploitation. 
 
The reporting time for the run is 6:30 am. The 3 km run starts from Shaniwar Wada and is open to women and participants below 18 years of age. 
 
The 6 km run starts at New English School, Tilak Road, and is open to participants aged 19 and above.
