Michael Jackson, 50, passes away

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, passed away last night.

Jackson's music and his concerts were always marketed brilliantly, underlined by the fact that his comeback tour, a 50-show run at the O2 Arena in London had already sold than $85 million in tickets -- in the midst of one of most difficult times in the UK economy.

Closer home, Jackson was the dream celebrity endorser, Jackson was Pepsi's favourite. His deal with Pepsi, worth 15 million, was the largest ever endorsement for product promotion at that time.

Jackson played a significant role in the popularity of the music video and of MTV itself with stand-out disruptive videos such as Billie Jean and Thriller.
