Harlequin and Dashverse partner on animated microdramas

Harlequin and Dashverse collaborate to adapt romance titles into mobile-first animated microdramas, targeting global short-form video audiences.

Harlequin and Dashverse have announced a strategic multi-year agreement to co-produce a slate of 40 animated microdramas, extending established literary intellectual property into mobile-first video formats. The collaboration signals a growing convergence between publishing, entertainment and technology, with a focus on scalable, short-form storytelling.

The initiative will launch in April with its first adaptation, A Fairy-Tail Ending by Catherine Mann, marking the beginning of a phased content rollout. The broader slate will draw from Harlequin’s extensive catalogue of romance titles, transforming them into episodic, visually driven narratives designed for digital consumption.

The microdramas will be created by illustrators supported by Dashverse’s proprietary system, Frameo. This platform has been developed to enable high-quality, serialised video production at scale, aligning with the increasing demand for rapid content creation across digital platforms. The approach combines creative storytelling with AI-enabled efficiencies, positioning the output as both cost-effective and adaptable.

The content will be distributed in English across global microdrama platforms, including Dashverse’s DashReels, with a focus on reaching audiences that favour short, episodic formats. This distribution strategy reflects a broader shift in viewing behaviour, where mobile-first consumption and high-frequency engagement are reshaping content formats and marketing approaches.

The partnership leverages Harlequin’s established equity in romance storytelling while introducing its narratives to a new generation of viewers. By reimagining existing intellectual property in a contemporary format, the collaboration extends the lifecycle and accessibility of these stories, effectively repositioning them within the evolving digital entertainment ecosystem.

Brent Lewis, evp and publisher, Harlequin, said, "Harlequin romance stories have a long-standing legacy of resonating with readers through their universal themes of love and connection. This partnership with Dashverse represents an exciting opportunity to reimagine these cherished stories for a new audience, leveraging cutting-edge technology to bring them to life in an innovative and engaging medium."

Sanidhya Narain, ceo and co-founder, Dashverse, added, "Some of the most powerful stories in the world already exist, they just need to be experienced in new ways. With Harlequin, we’re unlocking a vast library of beloved stories and reimagining them for a format that is visual, immediate, and built for today’s generation. This is a step toward building global entertainment franchises from existing IP, powered by AI."

Additional adaptations are scheduled for release in May, including Forbidden Fiji Nights with Her Rival by JC Harroway, Newlywed Enemies by Jackie Ashenden, The King's Pregnancy Proposition by LaQuette, and Mistletoe Baby Mix-Up.

The collaboration reflects a broader industry trend where short-form serialised video is emerging as a key entertainment and marketing format. By combining established storytelling IP with AI-driven production and mobile-first distribution, Harlequin and Dashverse are positioning the project as both a content franchise and a scalable branded entertainment model.
