D&AD: Five campaigns bag ‘Nomination’ honors in mobile marketing

The year 2012 marks a watershed moment in the history of D&AD awards as they celebrate their 50th anniversary this year. Twenty five juries have come together at Olympia, London, to review and reward some of the best creative work from 25,000 pieces spread over 133 categories that have        entered the competition this year.

On Day 2 of the judging process that will last for four days, with the Yellow Pencils being announced on April 19, In Book and Nomination announcements in the Mobile Marketing, Music Videos, Writing for Design and Photography were made.

In Book refers to work that will be included in the 50th D&AD Annual which will be published in September 2012, and Nomination refers to work that will be included in the D&AD Annual and is also being considered by the Jury for the award of a Yellow Pencil.

In the Mobile Marketing category, nominations went to: JWT Melbourne for Melbourne’s Writers Festival’s Wi-Fiction; Ogilvy Cape Town for ‘Carling Black Label Cup’; AKQA London for ‘Heineken Star Player’; Society 46 Sweden for ‘The Sound of Football’ for Pepsico/Carlsberg and AMV BBDO for ‘The Nightjar’ for Wrigley’s 5 Gum.

Mobile Marketing saw the highest increase in entries year-on-year. Two more campaigns that were awarded In-Book status were: Colenso BBDO New Zealand for ‘Impulse Saver’ for Westpac and Brand New School for eBay US ‘Give a `Toy Store’.

Said Tim Lindsay, “The entries to the mobile category have been up significantly not just in number, but also in quality. We’ve witnessed an increase in the creativity shown by the work entered. The investment clients are putting into mobile as it has come-of-age as a channel is clearly in evidence at this year’s D&AD judging.”

The Music Videos category saw El Nino for ‘Is Tropical’ by The Greeks for Kitsune (France); Les Telecreateurs for ‘NO BRAIN’ by Etienne de Crecy (France) and Pretty Bird for ‘Manchester Orchestra’ (US) being awarded the Nomination status.

Andy Morahan, director, Bikini Films and Foreman of the Music Video categoryat D&AD said, “A lack of funds in this industry has meant a great upsurge in creative thinking.”

Pentagram Design’s ‘Holiday Card’ was the only entry to be awarded a Nomination in the Writing for Design category. Four campaigns including Venture Three for ‘little Chef’ and ‘byvariousartists.com’ by Various Artists were awarded In-Book status.

While DDB London’s ‘Daylight Robery’ for Harvey Nichols ‘Summer Sale’ campaign was also the only one to be nominated in the Photography category, eleven campaigns received In-Book awards.
