Creative critique from a gender lens: 25-29 December

Dr AL Sharada, director, Population First, reviews ads from last week on the basis of gender sensitivity

Films that worked:

Quaker Oats

The ad featuring Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra for Quaker portrays a shared responsibility for a balanced lifestyle. The playful interaction, where Advani tricks Malhotra into cooking Quaker's Instant Oats, doesn't reinforce stereotypical gender roles and showcases a collaborative approach to wellness.

Gender Sensitivity Score (GSS): 3.25/5

Apollo Tyres

The ad is inclusive, presenting a single parent - a father. It portrays a positive and emotionally resonant connection between him and his daughter without reinforcing stereotypical gender roles. It deserves appreciation for moving beyond the ideal, stereotypical nuclear families and portraying a family of a single parent, a father with a girl child.

GSS: 3.25/5

Glenfiddich

The ad is balanced in its gender representation with two male and two female achievers narrating their life's journeys. It successfully conveys the idea that success and determination are not limited by gender, encouraging a broader perspective on facing challenges and emerging success.

GSS: 3.25/5
