Confiance Communications has secured the public relations mandate for The Ocean Cleanup, the global non-profit focused on eliminating plastic pollution from the world’s oceans. The appointment positions the agency to lead strategic communications for the organisation’s India operations.
Under the partnership, Confiance Communications will oversee end-to-end narrative development at both national and regional levels. The remit includes building engagement around The Ocean Cleanup’s marine plastic recovery mission and amplifying awareness of its technology-led interventions and on-ground deployments planned ahead of the monsoon season.
The agency’s communications strategy will centre on delivering high-impact visibility for The Ocean Cleanup’s cutting-edge systems, while embedding the initiative within broader national conversations. These include climate resilience, urban waste infrastructure reform and sustainable city development. The objective is to position The Ocean Cleanup as a key contributor to India’s environmental action agenda, aligning its global mission with local policy and civic priorities.
As part of the mandate, Confiance Communications will focus on translating complex, data-led environmental work into accessible and credible narratives for Indian audiences. The approach aims to build informed public understanding, strengthen stakeholder trust and sustain long-term awareness around ocean health and plastic pollution. The agency will also spotlight measurable outcomes, technological innovation and collaborations with civic bodies and environmental stakeholders to reinforce credibility.
Bushra Ismail, founder and chief strategist, Confiance Communications, said, “The Ocean Cleanup stands at the rare intersection of science, technological innovation, and tangible environmental impact. For us at Confiance, this partnership is deeply aligned with our belief that communication must serve a larger purpose. India is at a critical moment in its environmental journey, and there is a clear need for informed, responsible narratives around ocean health and plastic pollution. Our focus will be on translating The Ocean Cleanup’s complex, data-driven work into clear, credible stories that build public understanding, strengthen trust, and drive long-term awareness. This is the kind of issue-led work we are committed to championing.”
Robin Clegg, head of media and communications, The Ocean Cleanup, added, “India is central to the global effort to stop plastic pollution at its source, and cities like Mumbai represent sites where targeted action can deliver real impact. As we begin our work in India, it is important for us to communicate our mission with accuracy, transparency, and local relevance. Partnering with Confiance Communications gives us a team that understands the Indian media landscape and the responsibility that comes with telling this story. We are confident in their ability to responsibly and effectively amplify our mission as we scale operations and build a sustained presence in the country.”
The mandate reflects Confiance Communications’ growing portfolio of purpose-led organisations and its positioning at the intersection of impact, policy and progress. For The Ocean Cleanup, the partnership signals a structured approach to building sustained media presence and stakeholder engagement in India, with communications positioned as a strategic lever to support operational scale and long-term environmental impact.
