'India is strong on the entrepreneurial and intellectual fronts and people don't get it': Sir Martin Sorrell
In a chat with Campaign Asia at the sidelines of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Sir Martin Sorrell, founder and chairperson, S4 Capital, spoke about its Indian operations and stated how the agency is 'doing well but can't get complacent'.

"We went from number 29 to 13 in a year. So that's an incredible speed to grow at. We're doing very well right now but that doesn't mean we need to get complacent or we can't do better," he said.

In April 2021, MediaMonks, part of Sir Martin Sorrell's S4Capital, moved into a new office in New Delhi, during which it partnered with Epic Games, the creator of Unreal Engine (a real-time 3D creation platform for photoreal visuals and immersive experiences) to launch a studio in the city.

On its progress, Sorrell said, "It's done very well and they've got called for a lot of interesting pitches. What we're seeing is that Indian companies are going abroad. Indian entrepreneurs like the Ambanis, Adanis, Mahindras and Mittals (steel and telecom) are looking to expand and move abroad. I was at my Harvard Business School reunion and noticed how well the country is doing."

"All the good professors are Indians. The dean is Indian. The lead AI professor is Indian. One of the lead professors on working from anywhere is Indian too. Apart from the entrepreneurs, intellectual firepower is strong. I don't think people get that. A parallel of that will be Latin America, and I don't think people get that market either. You look at Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, all these markets are super talented, just like India," he said.
