Facebook hires HP marketer for new emerging market role

Sriramagopalan Desikan has left his position as Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) printing and PC marketing director for Asia-Pacific and Japan to take on a new role at Facebook as global business manager of emerging markets.

At Facebook Sriram’s focus will encompass India, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand, helping the company's advertising clients develop strategy these markets. The newly created role’s mandate has a FMCG, tech, and mobile/telecoms weighting on the client side and the social platform will undoubtedly utilize Sriram’s insight from his years at HP as well as his brand management background with P&G and startup experience in India.

Guiding thought leadership and direction within the company’s global accounts and emerging markets teams are part of his mandate as well as partnering with clients and agencies.
 
Facebook wanted a seasoned marketer with brand-building experience as well as digital and emerging market knowledge to take up this new position. Sriram fits that profile and takes charge today of collaborations with client, product, marketing, and agency teams to develop strategy with revenue objectives and other growth goals. He’ll also be a lead representative for the company at events and conferences within the categories and countries under his charge.
 
Sriram’s base will be in Singapore and he’ll report into the company’s global accounts APAC team leadership.
