Campaign India is ending the year by asking industry leaders about what this year taught them and an outrageous prediction for 2022.
Here's what Sam Balsara, chairman, Madison World, had to say:
Your stand-out moment or learning from 2021?
The power and true expression of the term 'we live in a VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) world' came alive in 2021. We had a reasonably stable JFM quarter and almost a good April, but our world collapsed again by the time April ended and continued to remain so in May and June. Just when we were beginning to resign ourselves to our fate, India bounced back and we had a good August and September and a never-before October on the back of vaccinations and optimism. As we began to take life for granted once again as we did in the past, comes the news of Omicron in end November, threatening our world once again.
The lesson for me is - never be surprised at anything. Don’t take anything for granted. If you don’t call this volatility, what is? Nothing is certain, today.
An outrageous prediction for 2022?
India becomes the hotspot of the world with everyone believing in the India growth story. Confidence amongst Indian businessmen is running to an all-time high and consumers are spending with a vengeance. A vaccine that defies Omicron is found and India becomes the global supplier of vaccines to the world.
