24 hours with…Sambit Mohanty

The creative head at McCann takes us through what a day in his life looks like

24 hours with…Sambit Mohanty

Ever wondered what an ideal day in the life of someone from advertising/marketing/media is? We're here to spill the beans on it in Campaign India's '24 hours with', feature which runs every Tuesday.

Name: Sambit Mohanty
Job: Creative head, McCann
Professional mantra: Keep fighting the good fight!
Personal mantra: No one is you and that is your power.

7:00am: It’s Monday? Where did the weekend go! Gah, I put on my reading glasses and check messages/mails.

7:30am: Pore over the daily newspaper with a cuppa tea. More out of habit since it’s mostly stale news one has already read online.

8:00am: Hit the gym despite the body’s protests. Realise the saying ‘pain is just weakness leaving the body’ is a load of bs.

9-10am: Breakfast and ablutions.

10:00am to 1:30pm: Reach work. The vortex awaits – calls/briefings/discussions/deadlines. Try and resist the urge to check Insta/Twitter/LinkedIn every 10 minutes.

1:30pm: Wonder what’s for lunch! This despite knowing the canteen guy will serve the same old egg curry and shahi paneer in a common gravy.

2pm: Get sucked back into the vortex. Try and resist the urge to check Insta/Twitter/LinkedIn every 10 minutes.

5pm: Achieve escape velocity and leave work to avoid getting sucked into the black hole called Gurugram traffic.

6pm: You can run but you can’t hide – the vortex pursues via the mobile.

7:30pm: Dinner. I also chew upon how my day went.

8-10:30pm: Finally, some downtime. Browse my watchlist on Prime/Netflix. Unable to decide, I pick up a book instead from the ever-growing pile next to my bed.

10:30pm: Put my mobile on DND mode. Drift off to sleep thinking of the idea that eluded me during the day. Hope it presents itself subconsciously.
