Welfare of Stray Dogs gives the Government a shout-out to amend Cruelty to Animals Act
The Welfare of Stray Dogs has rolled out a campaign through which it wants to capture the attention of the Government of India.

Through the campaign, the association urges the Government of India to make amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 to Parliament in this winter session. The campaign was conceptualised by Madison BMB's creative directors Rohan Joseph and Vallabh Yeolkar along with Raj Nair, CEO and CCO.

Abodh Aras, CEO, Welfare of Stray Dogs, (WSD), said "It is important that the archaic and weak PCA Act, 1960 is amended. A report quotes that 4.5 lakhs cases of animal abuse by humans were reported in 10 years. The existing law has failed to punish perpetrators adequately and deter others. The civil society needs to appeal to the government to replace the PCA Act with the stronger Draft Animal Welfare Act 2011."

Joseph and Yeolkar said, "Sessions have passed without the amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act being tabled. We are sincerely hoping they will be tabled in the winter session of Parliament."
