Twitter has shut down its physical offices in Mumbai and New Delhi, according to news media reports.
The social media platform’s staff in India now comprises three employees, including the country lead and other two who handle the north and east, and south and west regions. These too have allegedly been asked to work from home.
While Twitter continues to maintain an office in Bengaluru, it is a shared space that staffs engineers who are not a part of the India team.
However, reports also state that since Musk has fired employees, the company has been struggling to maintain operations and regulate content. The CEO even hinted at the possibility of Twitter going bankrupt by citing a massive drop in revenue, since advertisers pulled out in fear of the platform’s inability to filter out undesirable content.
Musk recently stated that he may need until the end of the year to stabilise the company and ensure its financial health. He also announced that he would be stepping down as the CEO of Twitter, at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
While Twitter's India office remains operational, according to reports, the company is challenged by financial instability, employee retention, and content regulation.
Musk took over Twitter in October in a $44 billion deal and fired half of its staff within weeks of joining.
