Pune Mirror to shut, Mumbai Mirror turns weekly

Both publications to focus on digital presence

The Times Group has announced that it has stopped publication of the print version of Pune Mirror and will be making Mumbai Mirror a weekly.

Both of them will continue to have a digital presence.

The group in a statement said, “Following months of discussions and deliberations, we have made this extremely difficult and painful decision to recalibrate our portfolio of publications. We truly value the contribution of our journalists and other staff towards building such a strong brand in a relatively short time, and thank them for their hard work and great effort.”

This follows the newspaper industry revenues being hit hard post the lockdowns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. According to a release issued by the Times Group, the industry's revenues have also been weighed down by an import duty which has added to newspaper costs.

Mumbai Mirror was launched 15 years ago with subsequent editions in Bengaluru, Pune and Ahmedabad.
