INS’ appeal to Government: Allow press to report on farmers' protest fearlessly

Urges Governments of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to revisit decisions of filing FIRs against journalists

INS’ appeal to Government: Allow press to report on farmers' protest fearlessly
The president of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), L Adimoolam, has appealed to the Governments of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, urging them to allow the press to operate freely during the ongoing farmers' protest.

In a statement shared with the press, Adimoolam stated that he condemns the actions taken by the Delhi, UP and MP Police whereby they filed FIRs against senior editors and journalists for reporting on the farmers' protest.

Adimoolam has urged the Governments to revisit their decisions so that the rights of the press are not circumscribed, and the media can perform its tasks fearlessly.

Yesterday (1 February), Twitter had withheld accounts that wrote in support of the farmers. The accounts were reinstated after about six hours.
