Why BBH, Subhash?

What made you opt in favour of joining BBH?
BBH has been my ‘hero’ agency for many years. I love the work that they have done. Not just because of its immense creativity but also because of its intellectual honesty and integrity which is something that I have been vociferously talking about for a long time; this whole business of doing work that’s only for awards versus doing genuine work which impacts brands. BBH has stood for that by doing genuine work which has always done wonders not just at the awards but also for the brands they work with. The exciting part/ opportunity for me in India is not just about creating any agency and making it profitable, it is about creating a BBH in India. I believe that India is just ripe for an agency like BBH, to perhaps, introduce a new paradigm in thinking. That’s what attracted me to the BBH option.

Besides global business, what is your strategy going to be for attracting local business?
We are very clear that the business cannot be dependent only on global businesses. We will certainly start with certain global alignments. In India, you have to grow with a lot of local businesses and there is tremendous growth with quite a few local players as well. There are a lot of Indian companies that are doing extremely well, there are Indian companies seeking to go global. So there is a lot of business that we can look at. A few years down the line, I can see a fairly good balance between global and local clients in our agency. At BBH, we would like to work with the kind of clients that will respect and honour the kind of work that BBH does. So it’s not just about chasing billings or revenue. It is about selecting the kind of clients where we can make a huge difference and who treat us like genuine partners.
