VIDEO: Industry heads re-live Cannes moments in Cannes Stories

Cannes Lions has launched a new marketing initiative to promote the festival this year through a series of videos featuring some of the industry’s top creative leaders recalling their Cannes memories through the years. The idea is to drive home the point that great stories begin in Cannes.

The first series of videos that have been made public, include adfolks like JWT’s Fernando Vega Olmos, AlmapBBDO’s Marcello Serpa, R/GA’s Bob Greenberg among others, talking about their most defining Cannes moments.

Some of the videos make for interesting accounts, down memory lane. For instance, JWT’s Fernando Vega Olmos talks about the time he happened to see folks during a screening at the festival, laugh at an adfilm from Argentina. He says it spurred him on to say that they would improve their quality of work.

R/GA’s Bob Greenberg talks about the osmosis of ideas and possibilities that Cannes has always held out for someone like him.

Vbat’s Eugene Bay talks about how he had always perceived Cannes to be an advertising festival and not typically a place where design would be taken seriously and how that outlook changed. He believes that as a designer if one is not going to Cannes, they are missing out on the huge reservoir of communications people that they can learn from.

The series of videos can be searched for on Twitter through the hash tag Cannes Stories.
