The Mumbai crime branch has arrested Vikas Khanchandani, CEO, Republic TV. The arrest was made on 13 December and is in connection with the fake TRP case against the channel. He is scheduled to be in custody till 15 December 2020. He is the 13th person accused in the case.

The case was registered after Nitin Deokar of ratings and research agency Hansa Research filed a complaint alleging that the TRP process by Republic TV was being manipulated. Deokar filed the complaint in October 2020. Further, the Mumbai police said that households were bribed each month to keep certain TV channels switched on through the day.

Republic TV’s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, who was also arrested in November on charges of abetment to a 2018 suicide case but later released on bail, discussed Khanchandani’s arrest in a segment on his show.

The channel's AVP of distribution, Ghanshyam Singh, was also arrested in November in connection to the #TRPScam.
