O&M creates new TVC for KFC’s Popcorn Chicken

Fast food restaurant, KFC has rolled out its latest snacking innovation, Popcorn Chicken for which Ogilvy & Mather has created the launch campaign.


Based on the line, ‘Movie yahan hai, popcorn kahan hain’, the TVC opens with a man driving a car in which his son and a couple of his friends are seated. While driving, the father inquires about his son’s result. The son responds to this by saying, the results have not been declared yet. Hearing this, his friends in the backseat who were previously uninterested in the previous conversations, suddenly gain interest and one friend whispers to the other, ‘movie yahan hai, popcorn kahan hai’. After this, the duo on the backseat spot a KFC outlet and dramatically ask their friend’s father to stop by screaming ‘uncle stop’. The father stops the car, outside KFC and they run into to order for Popcorn Chicken. The voiceover then introduces KFC’s latest offering before, the duo get back into the car and inform their friend’s father that the results had been declared a while back. Hearing this, their friend’s father starts  screaming at his son while the friends are shown enjoying their popcorn chicken.

Commenting on the TVC, Piyush Pandey, executive chairman and creative director South Asia, Ogilvy & Mather, said, “Taking inspiration from the movie-popcorn connect, we decided to bring alive the filmy moments in a youngster’s life in this campaign, in a refreshing and fun way.  I am sure the TVC will not only excite the viewers but will also get them into KFC outlets to enjoy the new offering.”

Speaking about the campaign Unnat Varma, director marketing - KFC said, “KFC is a youthful brand and through our campaigns we try to highlight situations in youngsters’ lives that are relatable and at the same time fun. The new Popcorn Chicken campaign takes inspiration from the everyday filmy situations that youngsters find themselves in. Considering popcorn is strongly associated with the whole movie watching experience, the ad’s filmy connect reiterates the unique bite-size fun and irresistible taste elements of the product”, he added about the campaign. 

The new offering, Popcorn Chicken is priced at Rs. 49 and Rs 89 depending on the size of the pack.
