Agency Report Card 2017: Fractal Ink

We assess Fractal Ink's 2017 performance in India, based on its business results, its innovation and initiatives, its work and awards and its people and leadership.

Agency Report Card 2017: Fractal Ink
A lot of the technology applied to customer experiences has largely been to creating engagement and the ‘wow’ factor. This is where Fractal Ink saw an opportunity to make a difference.

Take the case of putting AR and VR technologies into use. In 2017, the agency made the beginning towards using these technologies to solve real business problems that will have a direct impact on the client’s balance sheet. It's already worked on some cases that are not yet in the public domain.

One of the things that the agency pays special attention towards is the visual design skills of its team members. This led to the creation of the "Visual Design Pathshala", a series of workshops that are designed to hone the visual design skills of the team.

These bi-monthly sessions have a different format, each time they are held. It can vary from looking at some of the latest design projects from across the world and analysing them, to theory classes on principles of visual design to workshop oriented sessions where the team is set a specific task and is then evaluated by the creative director.

Other learning initiatives are in the form of informal Friday sessions that allows the team to share their knowledge with each other. This is important from the agency's point of view, as the world of experience design changes extremely quickly and the best way for the team to keep up is by being exposed to what other designers at the agency are doing. Hence one project is showcased every Friday – right from the brief, the objectives, the challenges faced, the discussions had with the clients and the eventual solutions.

No IoT of doubt

  • Every week, team members get together to work on cool IoT tech. They experiment, fight, laugh and have fun while figuring out how to make things move, light up and respond to sound! This club was started towards the end of 2017.
  • Some Fridays are reserved for fun when the team learns skills like book binding, quilling or even making paper rockets!
