The Covid-19 pandemic which has caused major disruptions to the advertising events space in 2020 has got its first casualty for 2021 - Adfest.
The organisers have taken the decision to not hold the annual four-day festival that was originally meant to be held between 17-20 March in Pattaya, Thailand.
Vinit Suraphongchai, chairman, Adfest, said, “In light of the current situation, we understand that it is neither safe nor financially viable for our industry at this time to be physically attending creative festivals. We miss our dear friends and wish we could welcome you in tropical Pattaya next March. There will be a time for that, but the time is simply not now. Our thoughts are with everyone in the industry and we will overcome this hardship together.”
The organisers have announced separate virtual awards ceremonies for both its 2020 and 2021 Lotus Awards. The exact date of the awards ceremonies will be announced soon.
Jimmy Lam, president, Adfest, added, “We have some exciting ideas that we are developing around the Lotus Awards and we can announce one immediately. With the continuing challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Adfest is introducing a new sub-category for all Lotus Awards categories, called Resilience Through Creativity, to reward the best creative ideas that demonstrate the strength of the human spirit in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
