Olx scripts modern day 'Gift of the Magi', delights

Watch the video conceptualised by Qyuki Digital Media here

A video for online classifieds player Olx.in has been conceptualised by Qyuki Digital Media, and went live on 15 July.

The film tells the story of an artistic couple, artist Satchit and his lady companion with a passion for photography.

The script seems inspired by O Henry's 'The Gift of the Magi' and the concept of selfless love.

On the artist's behalf, the lady applies to an art gallery in London for a competition. But all is not well. A notice from the bank on a pending EMI brings viewers a reality check, even as a lyrical voice over carries the film through. The lady browses for camera lenses, when she gets a mail from the London gallery that Satchit's application has been accepted. Their joy is short-lived though, as they realise they cannot afford the airfare. Before the windows can close, Satchit notices that she has been looking for a camera lens.

Sensing his dejection, she rummages through all the money she has hidden away, but still falls short. In the meantime, Satchit has written to the gallery expressing inability to participate. She sells her camera to fund his trip, while he sells his paintings to buy her a camera lens. Ironically, he uses her camera to photograph his work and post it online for sale.

When she arrives with his air ticket, he has an empty room (sans paintings) and a gift of camera lens to offer in return. Laughter follows at the irony of the situation, as the duo celebrate the #LittleJoysOfLife.
