Sachin Kalbag joins Mid Day as executive editor

In another development, Narendra Tripathi has been appointed printer and publisher for the North region

Sachin Kalbag joins Mid Day as executive editor

Mid Day has announced the appointment of Sachin Kalbag as executive editor and Narendra Tripathi as printer and publisher for the North region. Before joining the publication, Kalbag has been working with the India Today Group and Tripathi was chief operating officer of Radio Mantra.

Kalbag will be replacing Abhijit Majumder and head the four editions of the newspaper, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Bangalore. Commenting on his new assignment, Kalbag noted that these are exciting times to be part of a newspaper in India, and the competition is intense. “Across regions and across languages, newspapers are innovating and doing things that have never been attempted before. In such a scenario, Mid Day, too, will be breaking new ground in what we call impact journalism. For this to happen, we will need to get our fundamentals right so that our journalism is ethical, it impacts our readership immensely and it wakes up the authorities that need to be questioned.”

On his plans for the publication in the coming day, he added, “The four cities that we operate in have unique challenges that its denizens face. Therefore, Mid Day’s role becomes extremely important and it will be under constant scrutiny. Our aim is to create a unique mindspace among our target readership so that we not only live up to their expectations but also make them pick up a copy of our newspaper on a sustained basis. In that respect, there are changes being planned but it would be premature to declare them publicly. However, I can say this: our newspaper will stand for journalism of impact.”

Before the stint with Radio Mantra, Tripathi was working with NDTV as senior vice president, Delhi. He was also part of the launch team of NDTV 24x7 and NDTV Good Times.
