The Mumbai Police has detained Republic TV's editor-in-chief and managing director Arnab Goswami.

According to media reports, this follows the Maharashtra Crime Investigation Department (CID) re-investigating a 2018 case about the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik.

The Mumbai Police and Republic TV are also involved in a standoff regarding the TRP scam. On 20 October, the channel had stated that it will start legal proceedings against the Mumbai Police Commissioner for Rs 200 crore for damage to the reputation of the news channel and Goswami.

This came after a media address by the Commissioner, Param Bir Singh, on 8 October which stated that owners of the channels Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema were arrested as they were tampering with BARC data to boost their ratings. Singh also stated that Republic TV was being investigated for the same reason.
