‘Not about expensive journeys, but unique journeys’

Q&A with Chitralekha Group’s Mitrajit Bhattacharya’s on his debut book 'Life Money Can't Buy'

‘Not about expensive journeys, but unique journeys’

Mitrajit Bhattacharya, president and publisher, Chitralekha Group, launched his book 'Life Money Can't Buy' on 16 April. This is the first time Bhattacharya has authored a book. It draws upon 11 of his travel experiences, which range from flying a jet in Switzerland to meeting a mermaid.

We caught up with Bhattacharya to know more about the coffee table book and what inspired him to write one.

Describing the book, Bhattacharya said, “This book is a journey of my life over the past decade or so. It’s about the out-of-the-box experiences I was fortunate to have covering the ‘luxe’ world criss-crossing continents...Hope you enjoy leafing through my adventures as much I have enjoyed ‘living’ them.”

Campaign India: What inspired you to write a book?

Mitrajit Bhattacharya: A series of my articles had appeared in newspaper columns over the past eight to nine years. Last year, a leading magazine approached me to write and that's when the seed was planted in my head of getting all my experiences under one roof it and title it 'Life Money Can't Buy'.

Is writing a hobby for you?

Not really. I'm a quintessential marketing guy, for whom lifestyle is a neccesity. The book is about my experiences. The experiences are the expressions in the book. That said, you can't write a book without good writing skills.

What's the book about?

It's all about my experiences. The experiences in the book are not opulence. The 11 experiences are not about being expensive journeys, but it's about unique journeys. The events cannot be done again. I feel very lucky to be there at these very rare events. All the 11 stories are about completely different and distinct experiences.

What's the print run for the 'Life Money Can't Buy'?

We've got a plan of an initial print run of 5,000 copies, which isn't bad for a coffee table book. The book is priced at Rs 895 and the initial response has been good for us.
