Adland Rockstars: Varun Goswami

Gunjan Prasad, 01 February, 2010

New Delhi

This week's Adland Rockstar is Varun Goswami, creative group head, BBDO India

How did you get into advertising?
Marks don’t lie. Besides, you’d not be asking me this if I was a cost and works accountant.

How was your first week in advertising?
It was spent writing an ad announcing the next dry day.
Serious.

What is the one thing you like about your job?
The new M-Audio Studiophile monitor speakers on my office table.

What is the one thing you dislike about your job?
Respondent smiles retarded-ly till he is asked the next question...

What’s the best advice you’ve got?
No one will doubt the contents of your hard disk as long as you keep a Bhagwaan wala wallpaper. – Anonymous (on request) ex IT guy.

One person in advertising you would like to have dinner with?
The finance guy.

One person outside advertising you’d like to have dinner with?
Padma Lakshmi. Even if we are ordering out.

Favorite film?
V for Vendetta. In 2005, the world is sold a protagonist who believes in blowing up important buildings to bring about change. Brave.

Favorite fimlmaker?
David Fincher of Zodiac, 7, fame.

Favorite author?
If I can make that writer, I’d say Peter Travers. He is a film critic for Rolling Stone.

Favorite book?
Travers’s review for any of the Mummy movies.

An ad campaign you really admire?
The NBA Playoffs 2009 “There can only be one” campaign.

Three things I would like to carry to a desert island?
KFC, Kleenex, and a waste bin.
