Weekend Fun: ESPN makes FIFA World Cup pitch, raises a toast to hosts Brazil

Watch the promo here; no news on Indian broadcaster yet

The countdown to FIFA’s biggest celebration has begun. ESPN, the network that holds exclusive rights for English language broadcast of the tournament, has commenced promotions of the 2014 World Cup. The network has rolled out a 105-second film.

The film, the first in a series of planned communication, was rolled out on 2 January 2014 on the channel's YouTube page and features clips of action from previous international tournaments. This is interspersed with the celebration of football exclusive to the host nation Brazil.

The film features World Cup heroes such as Pele, Johann Cruyff, Neymar JR., Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta among others in action, and fans in stadia enjoying the games.

While the time difference remains a cause for worry on viewership, there is no update, yet, on which channel fans in India will get to watch the matches on. The FIFA World Cup begins on 12 June 2014.
