Former IPL COO Sundar Raman to head sports portfolio at Reliance Industries

Besides consolidation and integration of portfolio, mandate includes driving newer avenues of growth and integration with Jio

Former IPL COO Sundar Raman to head sports portfolio at Reliance Industries
Sundar Raman, who stepped down as IPL COO in early November, will join Reliance Industries (RIL) as CEO – sports, informed a statement from the company dated 16 November 2015.
 
He will be responsible for consolidation and integration of RIL's sports portfolio. In addition to existing properties, Raman has been mandated to drive newer avenues of growth in sports and integration with RIL’s upcoming 4G digital services (Jio).
 
RIL has invested in a multiple sports properties directly and indirectly over the last few years. Besides which, Reliance Foundation has several initiatives such as Basketball and Young Champs.
 
Raman said, "I am delighted at the opportunity to join Reliance. Reliance’s existing sports properties coupled with its Jio digital services provides newer areas of growth. RIL has a huge aspiration in the sports area. The opportunity to be engaged in integrating the entire sports portfolio and make sports also an integral and important element in RIL’s growth will be an exciting journey.”
 
Raman started his career as a media planner with HTA in 1995, and rose to the position of MD at Mindshare India before moving to the IPL.
