In January 2014, ASCI’s Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) upheld complaints against 134 ads. In all, 144 ads were complained against. The health and personal care category continued to lead with the highest number of complaints received in January 2014.
Health and Personal Care
The CCC found the claims in the following ads to be either misleading or false or not adequately/scientifically substantiated. Some of the health care products or services ads also contravened provisions of the Drug & Magic Remedies Act.
Consumer Durables
The CCC concluded that the claims mentioned in these five advertisements were not substantiated.
Food & Beverages
The CCC concluded that the claims mentioned in these seven advertisements were not substantiated.
Education
The CCC found following claims in print ads by 10 different advertisers were not substantiated violating the ASCI Guidelines for Advertising of Educational Institutions .
Real Estate
The CCC concluded that the advertiser was misguiding the public.
